For most ceiling installations, 12-gauge hanger wire is the preferred method of suspending ceiling components, as stated in ASTM C636. Typically, the wire is affixed to the existing structure and attached on 4 ft. intervals to main runner components. This method of hanger wire attachment is suitable for most installations, and will permit the main runner components to support a specific amount of weight as indicated by the ASTM C635 rating assigned to the component. Occasionally, project specifications requiring 8-, 9-, or 10-gauge hanger wire will arise. In these instances, the belief is that heavier gauge wire will increase the load-bearing capabilities or enhance the structural integrity of the ceiling system. Due to the difficulties that often arise during various aspects of the installation process, e.g. wire bending, system leveling, wire tying, etc., when using one of these gauges of wire, 12-gauge wire proves to be a better product choice as the wire will adequately support typical ceiling loads.

Commonly seen in offices, they are also very common in schools, medical facilities, and more. In addition to the acoustic benefits referenced in the name, these kinds of ceilings are also affordable, easy to install, and accessible when maintenance is needed. This is 12-gauge soft wire (hanger wire) straightened and cut to a specific length. The 1006 carbon wire has 50 – 140 psi max and has standard commercial coating manufactured using hot dipped galvanizing.

The Right Wire for The Job

Trying to use another type of wire in this application may be tempting, but it would never be quite right. Our acoustic ceiling hangers are specifically designed and manufactured with these types of ceilings in mind.

For starters, it is 12 gauge, which is a commonly accepted standard for many drop ceilings. The wire itself is 1006 carbon and features a typical commercial coating produced through hot-dip galvanization. Also, it has been straightened to allow for easy installation. For additional convenience, the wire is shipped to you pre-cut to accurate lengths (4’, 6’, 8’ 10’, 12’, and 20’ available as stock). Each bundle includes 100 wires, and custom lengths up to 30’ are available.
